Magictail Back Bay Series Tog Jig – 3-Pack, 1/4–2oz, 2/0 Hook
Magictail Back Bay Series Tog Jig – Built for Sheepshead & Tautog in Shallow Water
The Magictail Back Bay Series Tog Jig is a finesse jig head purpose-built for sheepshead and tautog (blackfish) in shallow backwaters, docks, bridges, and structure where big hooks and heavy jigs spook fish or snag constantly. Developed by Magictail Outfitters since 2017 and upgraded in 2022 with the same super-strong hook model used in their Game Changer Tog Jig series — scaled down for the finesse presentations that back bay fish demand.
Sold in 3-packs across 7 weights (1/4 to 2oz) and 5 colors, with a consistent 2/0 hook across all sizes for reliable hook-sets in the tough mouths of sheepshead and tautog.
Why the Back Bay Series Works
- 2/0 hook across all weights – consistent hook size from 1/4oz to 2oz; sized for small baits and solid hook-sets in hard-mouthed species
- 2022 upgraded hook – same super-strong hook model as the Game Changer Tog Jig series, scaled for finesse applications
- 7 weight options – 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/2, and 2oz to match depth and current in shallow environments
- 5 color options – Chartreuse, Glow, Lead, Orange, and Shore Crab
- Sold in 3-packs – stock up on the colors and weights you fish most
- Shallow water optimized – designed for docks, bridges, jetties, and backwater structure where finesse presentation matters
Weight Selection Guide
1/4–3/8oz – ultra-shallow water, minimal current; ideal for dock fishing and calm backwater flats. 1/2–3/4oz – the versatile all-around back bay weight; covers most shallow structure situations. 1–1-1/2oz – moderate current and slightly deeper structure; bridges and inlet edges. 2oz – stronger current and deeper back bay channels where lighter jigs won’t hold bottom.
Color Selection Guide
Shore Crab – the most natural color for sheepshead and tautog that are keying on crabs; a go-to in clear water. Lead – natural, subtle profile that works in any water clarity. Orange – high-visibility pick for stained or murky water. Chartreuse – strong attractor color in low-visibility conditions. Glow – early morning, late evening, and deeper structure where light penetration is low.
