Magictail Micro Bird Chain – Trolling Teaser for Tuna, Mahi, Wahoo & Inshore Species

The Magictail Micro Bird Chain is a 3" bird-style daisy chain trolling teaser designed to create surface commotion and mimic a fleeing school of baitfish. The bird head skips and splashes across the surface while the trailing chain of soft lures undulates beneath it — a combination that draws pelagic predators up from depth and triggers aggressive surface strikes. At $35.99 it’s a complete, ready-to-troll rig in 6 colors.

How It Works

  • Bird head – the 3" bird skips across the surface, creating splash and bubble trails that simulate a baitfish school in a panic; visible from depth and at distance
  • Daisy chain body – trailing soft lures undulate and flash beneath the surface, adding movement and visual appeal that draws fish into the spread
  • Teaser or hook rig – fish it as a hookless teaser to draw fish to the boat, then pitch a live bait or lure; or rig a hook on the trailing lure for a direct strike
  • 6 color options – Blue, Pink, Green, Rainbow, Purple, and White to match conditions and target species

Target Species & Trolling Tips

Offshore: Tuna, mahi-mahi, and wahoo respond strongly to bird chains trolled at 6–8 knots on the short corner or shotgun position. The surface commotion is especially effective in flat or calm conditions where fish are actively looking up. Inshore: Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and false albacore will attack bird chains trolled at higher speeds along bait schools and rips.

Color Selection Guide

Blue – matches blue runner and flying fish; a natural offshore choice in clear blue water. White – matches ballyhoo and sand eels; versatile in any conditions. Green – matches mahi forage and works well in green or mixed water. Pink – high-visibility attractor; strong for mahi and wahoo. Purple – a proven squid color that works at depth and in low light. Rainbow – multi-color pattern that covers multiple baitfish profiles in a single rig.
