Magictail HooMagic – Tournament-Proven Bullet Head Trolling Lure for Tuna, Mahi & Wahoo

The Magictail HooMagic is a bullet head style offshore trolling lure built around two design features that set it apart from every other head on the market: oversized bug eyes that create a uniquely erratic, distressed baitfish action in the water, and a glow-painted head that stays visible in murky water and at depth. The result is a lure that draws strikes when others don’t — and one that has been instrumental in winning millions of dollars in tournament prize money for top teams worldwide over the last decade.

Available in 21 colors and 4 weights (1oz, 2oz, 3oz, and 6oz) from $20.99 to $29.99.

Key Design Features

  • Oversized bug eyes – create an unparalleled action in the water, mimicking a distressed baitfish that big game can’t ignore; the eyes are the HooMagic’s signature and primary strike trigger
  • Glow-painted head – stays visible in murky water, low light, and at depth; draws fish from distance in conditions where standard lures go dark
  • Bullet head profile – tracks straight and true at trolling speed; designed to be rigged with a ballyhoo for maximum effectiveness
  • Tournament proven – used by winning teams across the globe for over a decade; not marketing hype — this lure has the hardware to prove it

Rigging Recommendation

For optimal results, rig the HooMagic with a ballyhoo. The bullet head is designed to work with a rigged ballyhoo behind it — the combination of the head’s bug eye action and the natural ballyhoo presentation is the rig that tournament winners rely on. Troll at 7–9 knots on the short corner or long corner position in your spread.

Weight Selection Guide

1oz – lighter sea conditions and slower trolling speeds; works well on flat lines and in calmer offshore water. 2oz – the all-around offshore weight; covers most conditions at standard trolling speeds of 7–8 knots. 3oz – rougher conditions and faster trolling speeds; stays in the water better in chop and current. 6oz – maximum weight for heavy sea conditions, fast trolling, and deep spread positions where you need the lure to stay down.

Color Selection Guide

Flying Fish / Mahi – natural baitfish patterns that match the primary forage in blue water; go-to colors in clear offshore conditions. White / White Walker – matches ballyhoo and squid; highly versatile in any water clarity. Blue Head All Crystal / Green Head All Crystal / Pink Head All Crystal / Wine Head All Crystal – crystal skirt colors with colored heads; the flash and translucency are especially effective in bright conditions and clear water. Blue Tips / Green Tips / Pink Tips / Purple Tips – two-tone tip colors that add contrast and movement at the skirt ends; strong attractor patterns. Black & Blue / Black & Green / Black & Orange – dark base with contrasting color; proven in blue water for tuna and wahoo. Pink & Blue / Purple/Blue – high-visibility combinations that stand out in any spread. Capt America / Supreme / Kermit / President Trump – signature novelty colors with proven fish-catching profiles.
